- 2 cups Basmati rice
- 1 large Onion, chopped
- 2 Tomatoes, chopped
- 1/2 cup Vegetable oil
- 1 tsp Cumin seeds
- 1 tsp Mustard seeds
- 1 tsp Fennel seeds
- 2 Bay leaves
- 1 Cinnamon stick
- 4 Green Cardamom pods
- 4 Cloves
- 1 tsp Turmeric powder
- 1 tsp Red chili powder
- 1 tsp Coriander powder
- 1 tsp Cumin powder
- 1 tsp Garam Masala powder
- 2 tsp Salt
- 4 cups Water

Method
- Wash the Basmati rice and soak it in water for 30 minutes.
- Heat the vegetable oil in a large pot over medium heat.
- Add the chopped onion and sauté until it is translucent.
- Add the chopped tomatoes and cook until they are soft.
- Add the cumin seeds, mustard seeds, fennel seeds, bay leaves, cinnamon stick, green cardamom pods, and cloves to the pot and cook for 1 minute.
- Add the turmeric powder, red chili powder, coriander powder, cumin powder, garam masala powder, and salt to the pot and cook for 2 minutes.
- Add the soaked Basmati rice to the pot and stir well to coat it with the spices.
- Add 4 cups of water to the pot and stir well.
- Bring the water to a boil, then reduce the heat to low and cover the pot with a lid.
- Cook the rice for 20-25 minutes, or until the water has been absorbed and the rice is tender.
- Fluff the rice with a fork and serve hot.
