Ingredients

Method

  1. Wash the rice and soak it in water for 30 minutes.
  2. In a large pot, add the soaked rice, water, coconut milk, salt, cinnamon stick, cardamom pods, and cloves. Mix well.
  3. Bring the mixture to a boil over high heat. Once it starts boiling, reduce the heat to low and cover the pot with a lid.
  4. Cook for 20-25 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the liquid has been absorbed and the rice is cooked through.
  5. Remove the pot from the heat and let it sit for 5 minutes to cool down slightly.
  6. Add ghee or butter and mix well with a wooden spoon.
  7. Transfer the rice to a bowl or a mold and press down firmly to create the shape of the lump rice.
  8. Let it cool down completely before cutting into slices.
  9. Serve with your choice of curry or sambol.

  • Make sure to soak the rice for 30 minutes before cooking to achieve a fluffy texture.
  • You can use either freshly squeezed coconut milk or canned coconut milk for this recipe.
