Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups basmati rice, washed and soaked for 30 minutes
  • 1 pound lamb meat, cut into small pieces
  • 1 large onion, sliced

  • 1 cup yogurt
  • 1 tablespoon red chili powder
  • 1 tablespoon garam masala powder
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon coriander powder
  • 1 teaspoon cumin powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt, or to taste
  • 1/2 cup fresh mint leaves, chopped
  • 1/2 cup fresh cilantro leaves, chopped
  • 2 tablespoons ghee or oil
  • 2 cups water

Method

  1. Heat the ghee or oil in a large pot over medium heat.

  5. Add the red chili powder, garam masala powder, turmeric powder, coriander powder, cumin powder, black pepper powder, and salt. Mix well.

  7. Add the mint leaves and cilantro leaves. Mix well.
  8. Add the soaked rice and water. Mix well.
  9. Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat to low and cover the pot with a lid.
  10. Cook for 20-25 minutes until the rice is cooked and the water is absorbed.
  11. Turn off the heat and let the biryani rest for 10 minutes.
  12. Fluff the rice with a fork and serve hot with raita or salad.
