Ingredients

For the rice patties:
  • 2 cups of sticky rice
  • 2 cups of water
  • 1 teaspoon of salt
  • 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil
For the filling:
  • 1 pound of ground beef or chicken (or tofu for vegetarians)
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 3 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons of soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon of sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon of honey
  • 1 tablespoon of gochujang (Korean chili paste)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
For the sauce:
  • 1/4 cup of mayonnaise
  • 1 tablespoon of gochujang
  • 1 teaspoon of honey
For the toppings:
  • Lettuce leaves
  • Tomato slices
  • Sliced cheese (optional)

Equipment

  • A rice cooker or a pot with a lid
  • A large bowl
  • A frying pan
  • A spatula

Method

  1. Rinse the sticky rice in a colander until the water runs clear.
  2. In a rice cooker or a pot, combine the rice, water, salt, and vegetable oil. Cook according to the instructions until the rice is tender and sticky.
  3. In a frying pan, cook the ground meat or tofu over medium-high heat until browned and cooked through.
  4. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic to the pan and sauté until fragrant and softened.
  5. In a small bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, sesame oil, honey, and gochujang.
  6. Add the sauce to the pan and stir until the meat or tofu is coated and the sauce is heated through. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  7. In another small bowl, mix together the mayonnaise, gochujang, and honey to make the sauce.
  8. To assemble the burgers, wet your hands and shape the cooked rice into patties. Heat a non-stick pan over medium heat and lightly toast the rice patties until crispy on both sides.
  9. Place a lettuce leaf on top of a rice patty, followed by a spoonful of the meat or tofu mixture, a tomato slice, and a slice of cheese (optional). Drizzle with the sauce and top with another rice patty.
  10. Repeat with the remaining ingredients to make as many burgers as desired.

Notes

  • You can use any type of ground meat or tofu for the filling, such as beef, chicken, pork, or tofu.
  • You can adjust the spiciness of the sauce by adding more or less gochujang.
  • You can add any other toppings you like, such as avocado, pickles, or kimchi.
