Ingredients

  • 2 cups of rice

  • 1 tsp of urad dal
  • 1 tsp of chana dal
  • 5-6 curry leaves
  • 2 tbsp of oil
  • Salt to taste

Equipment

  1. A pressure cooker
  2. A frying pan
  3. A spatula

Method

  1. Wash the rice thoroughly and soak it in water for 10 minutes.
  2. Heat oil in a pressure cooker and add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, urad dal, and chana dal. Fry until the dals turn golden brown.
  3. Add chopped onion, green chilli, and curry leaves. Fry until the onion turns translucent.
  4. Add grated coconut and fry for a minute.
  5. Add the soaked rice and fry for 2-3 minutes.
  6. Add 3 cups of water and salt to taste. Mix well.
  7. Cover the pressure cooker and cook for 3 whistles on medium flame.
  8. Turn off the flame and let the pressure release naturally.
  9. Open the pressure cooker and fluff the rice with a fork.
  10. Serve hot with raita or any side dish of your choice.

Notes

  • You can add more green chillies if you prefer a spicier dish.
  • You can also add cashews and raisins for a richer taste.
  • Make sure to fluff the rice well after it is cooked, to avoid clumping.
