Method

  1. Wash the rice in cold water until the water runs clear. Drain and set aside.

  3. Add the cumin, coriander, turmeric, black pepper, cinnamon stick, bay leaves, and cardamom pods to the pot. Stir and cook for 1-2 minutes until fragrant.

  5. Add the water and salt to the pot and stir. Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat to low and cover the pot with a lid.
  6. Cook for 20-25 minutes until the rice is tender and the water has been absorbed.
  7. Remove the pot from the heat and let it sit for 5-10 minutes.
  8. Fluff the rice with a fork and serve.
