Ingredient

  • 1 cup Basmati Rice
  • 1 cup Frozen Green Peas
  • 1 cup Paneer, cubed
  • 2-3 Green Chillies, chopped
  • 1 Onion, chopped
  • 1 Tomato, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon Ginger Paste
  • 1 teaspoon Garlic Paste
  • 1 teaspoon Cumin Seeds
  • 1 teaspoon Coriander Powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon Turmeric Powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon Red Chilli Powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon Garam Masala Powder
  • 2 tablespoons Oil
  • Salt to taste
  • 2 cups Water

Equipment

  • Pressure Cooker or Pot with Lid
  • Frying Pan
  • Spatula
  • Bowl
  • Cutting Board
  • Knife
  • Measuring Cups and Spoons

Method

  1. Wash the rice and soak it in water for 30 minutes.
  2. Heat oil in a pressure cooker or pot and add cumin seeds.
  3. Once the cumin seeds start to crackle, add chopped onions and green chillies. Sauté until the onions turn translucent.
  4. Add ginger paste and garlic paste. Sauté for a minute.
  5. Add chopped tomatoes and sauté until they turn mushy.
  6. Add coriander powder, turmeric powder, red chilli powder, and garam masala powder. Sauté for a minute.
  7. Add cubed paneer and sauté for 2-3 minutes.
  8. Add green peas and sauté for a minute.
  9. Add soaked rice and sauté for a minute.
  10. Add water and salt. Mix well and close the pressure cooker or pot with a lid.
  11. Cook for 2 whistles or until the rice is cooked.
  12. Let the pressure release naturally and open the pressure cooker or pot.
  13. Garnish with chopped coriander leaves and serve hot.

Notes

  • If you don’t have paneer, you can substitute it with tofu or skip it altogether.
  • If you don’t have a pressure cooker, you can cook the rice in a pot with a lid. Follow the same steps and cook until the rice is done.
  • You can adjust the amount of spices according to your taste.
