For the jeera rice, you will need:- 1 cup Basmati rice
- 1 tablespoon ghee
- 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
- 2 cups water
- Salt to taste
- 1 cup yellow lentils (moong dal)
- 3 cups water
- 1 tablespoon ghee
- 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
- 1 onion, chopped
- 2 tomatoes, chopped
- 1 green chili, chopped
- 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 1 teaspoon red chili powder
- Salt to taste
- 1 tablespoon chopped coriander leaves

Method
1. Rinse the rice in water and soak it for 15 minutes. 2. Heat ghee in a pan and add cumin seeds. Let them splutter. 3. Drain the water from the rice and add it to the pan. Saute for 2 minutes. 4. Add 2 cups of water and salt to taste. Cover the pan and let it cook on low heat for 15 minutes. 5. For the dal tadka, rinse the lentils in water and soak them for 30 minutes. 6. In a pressure cooker, add the soaked lentils, 3 cups of water, and salt to taste. Cook for 10 minutes or until done. 7. Heat ghee in a pan and add cumin seeds. Let them splutter. 8. Add chopped onions and saute till they turn translucent. 9. Add chopped tomatoes and green chili. Saute for 2 minutes. 10. Add turmeric powder, red chili powder, and salt to taste. Mix well. 11. Add the cooked lentils to the pan and mix well. Let it simmer for 5 minutes. 12. Garnish with chopped coriander leaves. 13. Serve hot with jeera rice.Notes
