- 1 cup jeera rice
- 1 cup toor dal
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 1 tomato, finely chopped
- 2 green chillies, slit
- 1 tsp ginger garlic paste

- 1 tsp red chilli powder
- 1 tsp turmeric powder
- 1 tsp garam masala powder
- 2 tbsp oil
- Salt to taste
- Coriander leaves for garnishing

Method
- Wash the jeera rice and soak it in water for 30 minutes.
- Wash the toor dal and pressure cook it with 2 cups of water, turmeric powder, and salt for 4-5 whistles.
- Heat oil in a pan and add cumin seeds. Once they crackle, add the onions and green chillies. Saute until the onions turn translucent.
- Add ginger garlic paste and saute for 2-3 minutes.
- Add the chopped tomatoes and cook until they turn mushy.
- Add red chilli powder, garam masala powder, and salt. Mix well.
- Add the cooked toor dal and mix well. Simmer for 5-10 minutes.
- Drain the water from the soaked jeera rice and add it to a pan. Add 2 cups of water and salt. Cover and cook until the rice is done.
- Serve hot with dal fry and garnish with coriander leaves.
Notes
- If you don't have a pressure cooker, you can cook the toor dal in a pot with 4 cups of water on medium heat for 30-40 minutes.
- You can adjust the spice level according to your preference.
- You can also add vegetables like carrots, peas, and potatoes to the dal for a more nutritious meal.
