Ingredients

  • 1 tomato, chopped

  • 1 teaspoon of red chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon of turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon of garam masala
  • Salt, to taste
  • 3 cups of water
  • Fresh cilantro, chopped (optional)

Equipment

For this recipe, you will need a large pot or pan with a lid to cook the rice and a cutting board and knife to chop the vegetables.

Method

1. Rinse the rice in cold water and soak for 15-20 minutes. 2. Heat the oil in a large pot or pan over medium heat. 3. Add the cumin seeds and fry for 1-2 minutes until fragrant. 4. Add the chopped onion and sauté for 2-3 minutes until golden brown. 5. Add the ginger paste and garlic paste and fry for 1-2 minutes. 6. Add the chopped tomato, green chili, red chili powder, turmeric powder, garam masala, and salt. Mix well and cook for 2-3 minutes. 7. Drain the water from the soaked rice and add it to the pot with the vegetables. Mix well. 8. Add 3 cups of water and bring to a boil. 9. Reduce heat to low and cover the pot with a lid. Cook for 15-20 minutes until the rice is cooked and the water has been absorbed. 10. Fluff the rice with a fork and garnish with fresh cilantro (optional) before serving.

Notes

You can adjust the spice level of this dish to your liking by adding more or less chili powder and green chili.
