- 1 cup basmati rice
- 1/2 cup split pigeon peas (toor dal)
- 1/2 cup split black gram (urad dal)

- 1 tomato, finely chopped
- 1 tsp mustard seeds
- 1 tsp cumin seeds
- 1 tsp turmeric powder
- 1 tsp red chili powder
- 1 tsp garam masala powder
- 2 tbsp oil
- 2 tbsp ghee
- Salt to taste
- 4 cups water

- A pressure cooker
- A wooden spoon

Method
- Wash the rice and lentils separately and soak them in water for about an hour.
- Heat oil and ghee in a pressure cooker and add the mustard seeds and cumin seeds.
- Once the seeds start to splutter, add the chopped onions and fry until they turn golden brown.
- Add the chopped tomatoes and fry for a few minutes until they turn mushy.
- Add the turmeric powder, red chili powder, and garam masala powder and fry for a minute.
- Add the soaked rice and lentils, salt, and water and mix well.
- Cover the pressure cooker with a lid and cook on high flame.
- After the first whistle, lower the flame and cook for another 10-12 minutes.
- Turn off the flame and let the pressure release naturally.
- Leefu Rice is ready to be served hot with raita or plain yogurt.
Notes
Leefu Rice can also be made in a regular pot, but it will take longer to cook. Adjust the water accordingly if using a regular pot.Nutrition Info
