Korean cuisine is known for its bold flavors, unique ingredients, and healthy dishes. Bibimbap

Bibimbap is a popular Korean dish that consists of rice, mixed vegetables, and meat. The word “bibimbap” translates to “mixed rice” in English. It is a healthy and filling dish that is perfect for lunch or dinner. Prep time: 20 minutes
Cook time: 30 minutes
Ingredients:
  • 2 cups of cooked white rice
  • 1/2 pound of beef (sirloin or flank steak)
  • 1 cup of sliced mushrooms
  • 1 cup of sliced carrots
  • 1 cup of spinach
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 tablespoons of sesame oil
  • 2 tablespoons of soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon of sugar
  • 1 tablespoon of gochujang (Korean chili paste)
Equipment:
  • Large skillet or wok
  • Small mixing bowl
  • Cooking spoon

Method:

  1. Prepare the ingredients by slicing the beef, mushrooms, carrots, and spinach.
  2. Heat a large skillet or wok over high heat and add 1 tablespoon of sesame oil.
  3. Add the sliced beef and cook for 3-4 minutes until browned.
  4. Remove the beef from the skillet and set aside.
  5. Add another tablespoon of sesame oil to the skillet and add the sliced mushrooms and carrots. Cook for 3-4 minutes until tender.
  6. Add the spinach to the skillet and cook for 1-2 minutes until wilted.
  7. In a small mixing bowl, combine 1 tablespoon of soy sauce, 1 tablespoon of sugar, and 1 tablespoon of gochujang (Korean chili paste).
  8. Add the cooked beef back to the skillet and pour the sauce over the vegetables and beef. Stir to combine.
  9. In a separate skillet, fry 2 eggs over easy.
  10. To assemble the bibimbap, place a serving of rice in a bowl, add the beef and vegetable mixture on top, and top with a fried egg.

Notes:

You can substitute the beef with chicken, pork, or tofu for a vegetarian version of this dish. You can also add other vegetables such as zucchini, bean sprouts, or bell peppers.
