Method

  1. Wash the rice in cold water until the water runs clear. Soak the rice for 20-30 minutes in cold water.

  4. Add chopped tomatoes and cook until they become soft and mushy.

  6. Add the washed lentils and 4 cups of water. Mix well and close the pressure cooker lid or pot lid.
  7. Cook the dal for 8-10 whistles or until it is fully cooked.
  8. Once the dal is cooked, release the pressure from the pressure cooker or open the pot lid. Mash the dal with a spoon or a potato masher.
  9. Meanwhile, drain the rice and add it to a saucepan with 2 cups of water. Cook the rice over medium heat until it is fully cooked and fluffy.
  10. Once the rice and dal are cooked, mix them together and garnish with chopped cilantro leaves.
  11. Serve hot with raita or papad.
